چکیده

Presently, organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) have largely replaced organochlorine compounds in the agricultural activities. Total turnover of OPs has increased around the world. Their residues have been detected in ground and drinking waters (Barceló, 1993), natural surface waters (Hernández et al., 1996), marine organisms (Barceló et al., 1990) and food products (Gunderson, 1995; Dejonkeheer et al., 1996). Chlorpyrifos[O,O-diethylO-(3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridil) phosphorothiate, CAS RN 2921-88-2, Dursban, Lorsban, Spannit] is a widely used organophosphorus pesticide in the countries of the European Union (>50000 kg per year) (UNEP 1991). It is classified as probable or transient leacher (Barceló, 1993) according to its half-life time in soil and its adsorption coefficient (Gustafson, 1989).

Acute Toxicity and Biological Responses of Clarias gariepinus to Environmentally Realistic Chlorpyrifos Concentrations

In this study, the lethal toxicity, behavioral responses and hematotoxicity of formulated chlorpyrifos on Clarias gariepinus was evaluated. C. gariepinus fingerlings were exposed to 0.2 mg/L, 0.25 mg/L, 0.3 mg/L, 0.35 mg/L and 0.4 mg/L of the active ingredient chlorpyrifos to determine the lethal concentrations and behavioral effects. C. gariepinus juveniles (38.84±7.67g) were then exposed to 0...

Acute Toxicity of an Organophosphate Insecticide Chlorpyrifos to an Anuran, Rana cyanophlyctis

Background: Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate pesticide that elicits broad-spectrum insecticidal activity against a number of important arthropod pests. Determining the insecticides’ toxicity to amphibians can give us a better understanding regarding the role of toxicants in amphibian declines. This information would be beneficial to assess their ecological relevance at environmental con...

Determination of Lethal Concentration (LC50) Values of Vanadium and Toxicity Effect on the Growth of Artemia urmiana and A. Franciscana

Although there is growing evidence that metals can be toxic to various aquatic species, there is still insufficient knowledge to integrate this information in environmental risk assessment procedures. In this study, we have investigated lethal Concentration (LC50) and toxicity effects of vanadium on mortality and growth of Artemia urmiana and Artemia franciscana. The in 24 h of A. urmiana and A...

Chlorpyrifos Bioremediation in the Environment: A Review Article

Introduction: Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphorus pesticide that is commonly used in agriculture. This toxin is harmful to a wide range of organisms, including living organisms, useful arthropods, fish, birds, humans, animals, and plants. There are many physical, chemical, and biological methods for the removal of organophosphorus pesticides from ecosystems, among which biodegradation is prefer...
